UPDATE: I've removed the web build because it has pretty major rendering issues and have re-uploaded the downloadable version so it should now hopefully work again.
About
MENERVA-324 is a small Sci-fi Metroidvania game made for Metroidvania Jam 19!
A good portion of the game is in a pretty rough state due to lack of time before the deadline. The bosses in particular are woefully basic, many sound effects are missing, etc. At some point I hope to go back and rework the bosses, music, graphics and some enemies and some of the level design. The story is also basically completely missing. (Aside from some very basic environmental stuff).
I heavily recommend playing through the game with a controller and using the downloadable version if you are on Windows. (The web version tends to hitch now and then. It may have some visual glitches too).
It should take around 20-30 minutes to complete, possibly more if you try to find everything in the game.
Controls
Keyboard Controls:
- Arrow keys to move / aim
- [Space] or [Z] to jump
- [Shift] or [A] to dash (Once unlocked) (Shift might not work on web build)
- [S] to throw bomb (Once unlocked)
- [S] to detonate bomb (Once unlocked)
- [D] or [X] to shoot (Once unlocked)
- [Control] to diagonal aim (Might not work on web build)
- [Escape] to pause / view map
- [F] to toggle fullscreen
- [Enter] or [Up] to save at a save machine
Gamepad Controls (Xbox Button Names):
- Left joystick to move / aim
- (A) to jump
- (B) to dash (Once unlocked)
- (Y) to throw bomb (Once unlocked)
- (Y) to detonate bomb (Once unlocked)
- (X) to shoot (Once unlocked)
- (Right trigger) to diagonal aim
- (Start / Options) to pause / view map
- (Up or Left Bumper) to save at a save machine

Known Issues / Bugs
- The first Boss seems to have broken animation when you face him again after beating him.
- Steam vents don't have a graphic.
- Control and Shift keys do not work in the web build.

Menerva is polished game and I feel impressed!
You rocks!
Very sleek and clean. Nice self contained progress loops that smoothly segued into the next. Avoided any massive backtracking. I'm not even sure what the final boss was meant to be since I couldn't see too much of it.
Very polished. Loved it! I especially love having a "save" while battling the last boss. ;)
Ok please make this a full game, this is easily the best game from the jam I’ve played. I love the art style, I’m fascinated by the universe, it feels incredibly polished and has such fun level design. You nailed this!!

on the right hand side, the corridor where there are is a save room in the middle on the right, top a level 3 door and lower a level 3 door, WTF is that invisible thing giving me tick damage?
like after climbing a bit lower in that vertical room, even if no enemy is around I take tick damage???
I am confused, cant see any puddle of goo I would be standing in.

Sorry about that! The particles are missing from the web build and you are being hit by steam. (An intermittent hazard that is completely made out of particles). Unfortunately I can't patch in another visual indicator right now because of the Jam Voting period.
Also, regarding the download, I have gotten in touch with itch.io support since it seems to be on their end. Nothing I can do about that right now either I'm afraid. :(
